Soumik Nandy Majumdar
Soumik, born in 1966, has a BFA from Kala Bhavana and an MFA from MS University, Baroda, with specialisation in History of Arts. He teaches history of Indian and East Asian Art at UG and PG levels. He is researching on the influence of Chinese and Japanese art on Santiniketan artists. He has written extensively on the emergence of modern art in Bengal with a special focus on Santiniketan.
One of the central interests of Soumik is art-education at various social segments. He has been working on art-appreciation for children and uninitiated, and has been conducting several workshops on art-awareness and visual-literacy all over the country and abroad with a mission to ensure sustainability of art at a broader social space.
He has curated a special show called 8 Bengal Masters: Miracles of Existence at Musee des Arts Asiatiques de Nice, Nice, France, May 2015, and also curated Jogen Choudhury Retrospective Show at NGMA, Bangalore and Kalakriti, Hyderabad in 2016.
He teaches as visiting faculty at reputed institutes like N.I.D, IIT-Kanpur, FTII, SRFTI and various other institutions.
Has published articles and essays in various national and international journals and magazines and has contributed as an art critic to a number of catalogues of contemporary art shows across the globe. He has written two books on art appreciation.
